DECIMA: The Digitally Encoded Census Information and Mapping Archive

DECIMA is a powerful tool for exploring and interrogating the social, economic and sensory life of Florence under the rule of Duke Cosimo I (1519-1574). Here you will find new and dynamic ways to visualize the early modern city of Florence, and to investigate the lives of early modern Florentines in a GIS-compliant, geo-referenced mapping tool.

The DECIMA Team consists of a core of researchers from the Department of History and the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto. Additionally, the team has benefited from the help and advice of an international group of collaborators and the technical support of Information and Instructional Technology at the University of Toronto.
